Sharing the Riches of Good Health

mission Our Mission

The Alexandra Campaign is an independent organization dedicated to addressing cancer related issues by making preventative measures affordable to the uninsured and underinsured, raising education and awareness in the community, and supporting research and care efforts.

The situation is this:  ten women a day are dying in the United Sates due to cervical cancer.  Seven of those cases are caused by the human papilloma virus.  The FDA has approved a vaccine for girls and women ages nine to twenty-six which prevents the spread of HPV.  Federal money is  available through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program for girls under twenty.  Legislation has been passed in Colorado to make it mandatory for all general medical insurance to cover the cost of the vaccine.  But not everyone is covered.

If no real effort is made, many who are eligible for the vaccine either won't make the effort to get immunized, or won't be able to afford it.

We want to raise public awareness of this issue so that everyone who is eligible and wants to get immunized does.  Here's a chance to takes significant steps toward eliminating the two types of HPV responsible for seventy percent of all cervical cancer.  We will be in the community and the media promoting it.  Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains has agreed to establish a fund whereby uninsured women may receive the vaccine at no cost to them, or at a significantly reduced rate.  We want to ensure that the fund is robust and that it is used.
